Builder Spotlight: Brian Bordeaux

Builder Spotlight: Brian Bordeaux

When it comes to metal shaping with attitude and old school grit, Brian “Butterra” Bordeaux stands out as a reliable builder who forged his way into the craft through hard work, resilience, and quality craftsmanship.

Known by his Instagram handle @butteras_metal_werx, Brian built a reputation for creating striking handmade parts and chasing experiences that reflect the same raw spirit that lives in the machines he builds.

Daily Ride and Garage Staples

Brian keeps a tight, meaningful lineup in his garage. His main machines are a 1973 Shovelhead and a 1955 Panhead, both bikes that speak to his appreciation for classic American craftsmanship. Among all the parts he has created or used over the years, the stainless girder front end he built with his own hands stands out as his personal favorite.

Racing and Road Adventures

One of Brian’s most unforgettable event experiences took him across the world to Swiss Moto in Zurich, which he remembers as truly special. The atmosphere, the builders, and the energy of the international scene stayed with him long after he returned home.

For road adventures, nothing compares to Sturgis 2024. Brian rode cross country with only his dog for company, who he brings with him everywhere.

Beginnings and Builds

Brian’s path into fabrication began during a difficult period in his life. After getting into trouble, he needed work and taught himself to weld well enough to earn his first job. What began as necessity became the foundation for a career defined by skill building and dedication to his craft. His earliest memory of motorcycles goes back to a little Suzuki 50cc that he rode around a makeshift backyard circle track as a kid where he found his love for riding.

Today he spends most of his time in the shop building. Creating cool and thoughtful work is what keeps him going.

Inspirations and Influences

If Brian could invite anyone to Mama Tried, his choice would be Scott Hendrix of Hendrixbilt. Brian admires his builds, his creativity, and the fact that Scott recently beat cancer. Above all, Brian sees Scott as “a genuinely good dude”.

Brian can draw inspiration anywhere. “If it’s quality, craftsmanship, or something that is done well, it has the potential to influence you”. Switzerland left a strong impression and remains a place he would love to revisit, but Japan sits at the top of his list for future trips.

Given six months with no obligations, he would set out on a surfing expedition around the world. His favorite book is 1984. With an unlimited budget, he would buy a fully decked out modern Harley built for long trips and comfortable performance with all the new performance stuff the kids are doing these days”.

Food, Family and Gratitude

Brian keeps things grounded when it comes to the simple pleasures of food and downtime. His favorite restaurant is Fat Jacks in Lakeland, Florida, a locally owned greasy spoon that has supported his shop for years. His ideal sandwich is a ham and cheese with mustard and mayonnaise, with potato chips inside for texture.

His favorite motorcycle brands are Harleys, Ducatis for the sound, and old Hondas always bring a smile to his face. Kawasakis hold a special place for him since his 750 twin with a spun rod bearing still managed to get him home.

Kyuss, Clutch, and Gwar are the sounds that shape the atmosphere of his shop days. When it comes to the people who matter, he wanted to give a special mention to Atlas Bordeaux, Bill Dodge, Boston Mike, and Eric FNA for being part of his story.
